Chiropractic care consists of spinal manipulation. The spine consists of 24 moveable joints. These joints begin below the skull and end at the base of your back. These bones, called vertebrae, can cause significant pain and pressure in response to stress, trauma and poor posture. Significant misalignment can be seen on X-rays in the form of arthritis, a slow degenerative process that occurs along the spinal column.

Chiropractic care consists of gentle vertebral adjustments or manipulation. Chiropractic spinal manipulation is not new. Thousands of years ago, manipulation was performed in a crude form of bone setting. The Asian culture has used various forms of joint manipulation for thousands of years. In our country, chiropractic got its birth in the late 1800s. Today, chiropractors employ a variety of techniques and modalities commonly seen in any physical therapy center or medical facility that performs Physical Medicine.

Chiropractic is safe and effective and is now recommended by the Department of Health and Human Resources as the foremost resource in treating acute low back pain. Other alternative therapies that are commonly used and seen in many chiropractic offices include: acupuncture, massage therapy, reflexology, aromatherapy, nutrition, homeopathy and relaxation techniques. Major health insurance plans are now covering the inexpensive costs of such "alternative" therapies in order to offset the cost of chronic diseases that are epidemic in our country today.
